Seven mandates ofa small businessaccountant.
The monthly foundation, tax, and what your financial statements say once the bookkeeping is clean. Each mandate can be taken on its own or alongside the others.
Accounting and payroll management
The monthly foundation of business accounting. The two mandates can be taken separately or together, depending on your transaction volume and the number of employees on payroll.
Bookkeeping
Data entry, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable tracking, GST and QST remittances, monthly reports. We work in QuickBooks Online and collect your documents through Dext, which lets us automate data entry.
Outsourced accounting can be taken in full or one mandate at a time: many self-employed clients start here, then add payroll at their first hire.

Payroll and source deductions
The area where penalties hit the fastest. We run payroll through Employeur D, calculate source deductions, produce the T4s, T4As and Relevé 1 slips, and meet the deadlines set by Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency, right through to year-end procedures.
We handle payroll on a turnkey basis: bonus and vacation pay, expense accounts, adding employees, retroactive adjustments, compliance with decrees and collective agreements, CNESST rates. You receive a monthly payroll summary and a reminder before every remittance.

Tax, trusts and estates
Two different mechanics under one roof: business tax and personal tax. Tax planning connects the two.
Corporate tax
Corporate tax returns start from your financial statements: T2 and CO-17, T4 and T5 slips, the small business deduction. Tax planning is done ahead of time, not in April: shareholder compensation, instalment payments, mileage reimbursement, loss carry-forwards, tax optimization.
Planning the fiscal year lets you optimize what you pay over twelve months rather than react to a bill. A tax accountant steps in when the structure calls for it.

Trusts and estates
We prepare the testamentary trust return, the final tax return of a deceased person and the separate returns that go with it, through to the TX19 and MR-14 clearance certificates.
We work directly with the liquidator and the notary on the file, from the first inventory through to distribution. It is an area we keep in-house.

Personal tax returns
We take on files for shareholders, self-employed workers and families already with the firm: self-employment income, rental income, capital gains, RRSP optimization and income splitting.
An owner’s return is prepared alongside their corporation’s, never separately.

What it costs
A price quoted before the engagement.
-
A written quote
An amount, a scope, a frequency. You know what you are buying before you sign.
-
Flat fee or hours worked
Monthly flat fee for bookkeeping and payroll, or a rate on the hours actually worked.
-
No surprise invoice
A favourable rate on technical tasks, and nothing landing at year-end unannounced.
Financial statements and performance steering
What your financial statements say once the bookkeeping is clean.
Compilation engagement
For when your bank, a lender, your landlord or an investor asks for financial statements signed by a CPA without requiring an audit engagement: compilation engagement (CSRS 4200), report on specified procedures (CSRS 4400), forecast financial statements, cost reports for grant applications.
We produce the full file, in the format your financial institution expects.
- Notice to reader
- Financial statements
- Financial statement preparation
- Pro forma
- Interim statements
- Financial year-end
- Tax year-end
- File for your bank
Financial analysis and dashboards
Margin by service, unit costing, twelve-month cash flow, break-even point, operating budget, the real cost of a hire. Steering organizational performance happens in three stages: a budget that sets the course, financial modelling that tests your scenarios, twelve-month projections that measure the gap between plan and actual.
We build the dashboard once, then review it with you every quarter. That visibility changes how a business is run: a company that reads its numbers every three months steers, one that reads them once a year only observes.
